BOTB Semi-finalists Announced

The ten semi-finalists for the 2006 Battle Of The Bands have been announced and look like the following…

  • Original Lineup
  • Top Down Mafia
  • Kickstart
  • Necromancer
  • Blue Meryl
  • Bad Mothers Union
  • Chemical Addiction
  • Morning Star
  • Act Of Vengeance
  • Scuba Dice

Congratulations to the ten bands who have made it to this leg - as was outlined yesterday, this is where the work really starts.

You’ve got three weeks to go away and work on your set. While there were considerations given for covers in the early stages, there won’t be in the semi final and certainly not in the final. Show your musical ability, show your originality, show what YOU are capable of - not what your favourite band can do.

Each band will be limited to FIVE songs on the day, five bands on each of the two semi finals (at present looking like Sunday October 8th and Sunday October 15th) with the final looking like Bank Holiday Sunday, October 29th where Itchy Trigger Finger will be playing as special guests on the day.

So if you are there in the top ten - get cracking!!! If you didn’t make the top ten, don’t lose heart. Its not that you weren’t good, or disappointed - this year’s competition was really strong and getting that list finalised was a bit of a chore (coffee helped) - but as judges we’re really looking at your ability on the stage and your originality.

Don’t forget the judging criteria (as has been outlined in the papers and on the site) - Originality, Musical Ability, Stage Presence, Crowd Reaction, Overall Performance.

Bring your own songs - bring your best songs - give it socks on the stage, get your friends and the crowd behind you and play your heart out!

Urinal Cake Out Of BOTB

Before they’ve even played, Urinal Cake won’t be taking part in today’s final heat ruling themselves out of the running for the Battle Of The Bands.

Don’t forget that today is the fifth and last of the heats  before we head to the semi finals. On the bill today are Decadation, Kaif, Paranoid and Act of Vengeange.

It should be pretty busy so drop in early! As always, music kicks off at 4pm.

Additional Judge For Semi-Finals

The judging panel will be joined by Alan Dawson of KilkennyMusic.com for the semi-final stage. For those of you who don’t know him, Alan is resident engineer and producer with KilkennyMusic.com as well as being a local drum tutor. With the tension building for the semi’s and such great prizes on offer we just had to have another judge!

Heat 5 Sunday September 10th

No heats yesterday due to the All Ireland (Go on the cats) / Leccy Picnic so the final five bands left in the competition will be taking to the stage this coming Sunday, September 10th.

The bands (with order decided on the day are)

  • Ace Of Vengeance
  • Paranoid
  • Kaif
  • Decadation
  • Urinal Cake

Bands and people might want to stick around after this heat as we’ll be announcing the ten bands progressing to the semi finals along with the dates for the semis. There’ll be a bit of a break to allow bands time to recharge and get ready for the big showdown, again, all the best to everyone involved.

Review: Battle Of The Bands Heat 2

No setlists for you this week (unless any band wants to email them in) but the second heat is now done and dusted.

Three bands were on the bill for the day with Decadation being moved to a later date and the bands that performed did not disappointed. With a more rock feel to the day, Indie Kids Can’t Dance got the proceedings underway just before 5pm and put on a great set, good full sound out of them including tracks ‘Whenever We Fall’, ‘In Suburbia’ and ‘Valley Below’. These guys should be ones to keep an eye on in the future.

Second on the bill for the day were Weeduggy who were performing in public for the first time. Opening up with a cover of System Of A Down’s ‘Aerials’ the band played a mix of covers and original tunes with a metal edge to their music, kicking off just after half five for a half hour or so.

Last but by no means least were Original Lineup who put on a solid performance with some great vocals and exchange of guitar riffs (never mind the exchange of instruments between songs!) bringing a close to a good day’s music.

Each band was well recieved by the crowds with the headbanging, festival-esque clapping and dancing to be had for most tracks.

With seven bands now out of the way there’s thirteen left to go. With Decadation moved to one of the later rounds we should see Scuba Dice, Blue Jacuzzi, Top Down Mafia and Spunge up next Sunday.

Heat 2 - Sunday August 13th

Don’t forget folks that heat 2 of the 2006 Battle Of The Bands gets underway at the same time this coming Sunday, August 13th.

On the bill for the day are Original Lineup, Weeduggy, Decadation and Indie Kids Can’t Dance.
