Register For 2007 Battle Of The Bands

The Battle Of The Bands for 2007 has opened its registration, though interest has been aroused for a few months now. The competition now running into its 6th year is open only to Kilkenny acts and our coverage will continue this summer on the Battle Of The Bands site.

If you’re interested in putting your band forward then keep an eye on this forum thread on KilkennyMusic.com. Note that you must be a member of the KilkennyMusic.com forum (free to join) to post so if you’re not a member already now would be a great time to sign up!

Scuba Dice Win Battle Of The Bands

For those not yet in the know, Scuba Dice are the winners of the 2006 Battle Of The Bands by Hype Entertainment. Sponsors also included Adlib Music (to the tune of €1000 worth of equipmment), The Mill Studio (to the tune of €1200 worth of recording time), Essaness (sponsor of the individual prizes), Brodericks (sponsoring the live recordings) and of course ourselves here at KilkennyMusic.com.

The final was highly contested and ye didn’t make it easy to pick a winner, let that be known. From the get-go with Original Lineup up first the performances were fantastic. Everyone had amped up their energy on stage, got the crowd behind them and gave it socks on the day. Judges for the final were myself (Ken), Alan Lennon and Alan Dawson who also went on to provide a 30 minute Itchy Trigger Finger set while the judges made their decisions.

Running order for the day was Original Lineup up first around ten to five or so, followed by Act Of Vengence (who I think snuck in a sixth track), Blue Meryl and finally Scuba Dice who looked like they had brought the whole of graigue with them.

The level of performance was terrific, the Zoo never looked better for a gig and the crowd never gave up with their jumping and moshing around.

We’ve got photos coming up from yesterday’s final and they’ll be published to the site today or tomorrow, don’t forget you can leave your comments and thoughts on the official blog for the 2006 Battle Of The Bands and let us know what you thought of each of the acts in turn.

I know there’ll be some disappointment and some disagreement with the result but everyone did fantastically well to get as far as the final and not finishing in the top spot isn’t a bad thing at all, hopefully all the bands will be back again next year to compete and I’m looking forward myself to seeing them in action on the gig circuit in town over the coming months.

Comiserations to those who lost out, thanks to the few hundred of ye who showed up on the day and hopefully we’ll do it all over again on an even grander scale next year.

Grand Final Today

The final of the 2006 Battle Of The Bands kicks off later this afternoon. Don’t forget to get yourself to The Zoo for 4pm to catch all four bands in the final, along with a special appearance by 2003 winners Itchy Trigger Finger. Keep an eye on this blog and KilkennyMusic.com after the gig for feedback and photos.

BOTB Finalists Announced

The finalists, four in total, for the 2006 Battle Of The Bands have been announced after today’s second semi final. Sure enough, there’s huge disappointment for some of the bands involved and getting the four bands into the final was by no means an easy decision with the fourth band entering only a few points above the next closest….

Anyway, in no particular order….

 • Act Of Vengence
 • Original Lineup
 • Scubadice
 • Blue Meryl

Don’t forget, the final will be held on Sunday November 12th, all bands are urged and encouraged to tighten up and really give the performance of a life time on the final as there can, at the end of the day, be only one winner.

Myp Et Jeep For Second Semi Final

Thomastown rockers Myp Et Jeep, who won last year’s competition, have been confirmed for a guest appearance next Sunday, October 15th, playing while the judges make their decisions in narrowing down the ten semifinalists to those who will compete in the final.

Judges for the semi-final stages are Andrew McGuinness (Hype Entertainment), Ken McGuire (KilkennyMusic.com), Alan Dawson (KilkennyMusic.com) and Alan Lennon (Guitar tutor)

November 12th Confirmed For Final

Sunday November 12th has been announced as the confirmed date for the 2006 Battle Of The Bands Final as Rockfall happens on October 29th and Slayer on November 5th is whisking away some of the bands involved in the semi-finals. This gives the bands a perfect break to organise their very best material for the final and give it their all as they go in search of the top prize of recording time in The Mill studios and €1,000 worth of equipment from Adlib Music.

One Semi Down, One To Go

The first of two semi-finals for the 2006 Battle Of The Bands passed off yesterday with Kickstart, Top Down Mafia, Blue Meryl, Necromancer and Bad Mothers Union all on the bill for the day.

Five good bands, five great performances with Blue Meryl slightly edging out in the crowd reaction factor, The Zoo literally shaking to its foundations even before the young band took to the stage midway through the evening - a serious moshpit, crowd surfing, the whole nine yards.

We’ve got some photo coverage going up live on KilkennyMusic.com in the photo gallery (open to members only, so if you’re not registered then sign up for free today) and we’ve got the second semi final on next weekend, Sunday October 15th.

Each band got to play five songs with original material stressed on the day and each band in turn gave it their all. Kickstart opened the proceedings, the band wearing matching t-shirts for the occasion and gave a solid performance. Top Down Mafia followed next with a very Red Hot Chili Peppers sound before Blue Meryl took to the stage, Spanky (lead vocal) giving it his all on the day. Fourth on the bill were Necromancer, all the way from Ballyragget, who gave it socks on day and had a good portion of the crowd behind them. Last, but not least, were Bad Mothers Union who put on another good performance, Sean opting to wear a mask for his performance!

Fair play to everyone involved on the day, the crowd was as big as ever and we’ve got five bands on next weekend before the finalists are announced on the day.

BOTB Semi Final One Announced

Bad Mothers Union, Blue Meryl, Kickstart, Top Down Mafia and Necromancer.

There’s the lineup for this coming Sunday, October 8th. Semi Final One kicks off in The Zoo at 4pm on Sunday afternoon, usual bat time, usual bat channel and all that jazz.
